Bangkok is a wonderful city that draws millions of tourists yearly, and millions more to live and work. For families that live in Bangkok, a big priority for parents is the level and quality of education that their children can receive. Most parents tend to turn away from government schools, as these are usually not well-funded, and the curriculum and language of the school are Thai.

Usually, an international school is the most preferred option, as the primary language of the school is English, and the curriculums tend to come from Western countries. This is a great choice if your children will likely move to a Western country later in life. It helps keep them at the same pace as these countries, as well as prepares them for a more Western lifestyle and culture. Luckily, there are some excellent international schools scattered across the sprawling metropolis that is Bangkok!

The North

Nonthaburi is often seen as the northern part of Bangkok, but it can easily stretch up to Rangsit or Pathum Thani. Safari World is close by, which is usually a popular destination for nearby international schools for field trips. Although there is less public transport, the BTS sky-train system continues to expand daily, and Grab is always available for a quick bike or taxi.

The South

The Southern part of Bangkok, just up to Samut Prakan region, is well-known for its abundance of international schools. For older students, a south Bangkok international secondary school is easy to find! What’s better, the BTS system is much more developed in this area, meaning it is much easier to get around and quickly get to school.

The Centre

Many people tend to flock to the centre of Bangkok, and it’s easy to see why—public transport is easy and affordable, many Westerners tend to find jobs in the city centre, and there are great apartments and restaurants scattered throughout. Many international schools here are located just off the BTS system, which can make it very easy for parents that need to quickly drop off their students and head to work. Some popular locations for both work and school are:

  • The Sathorn/Silom area, which is Bangkok’s bustling business district
  • The Khlong Toei district, hosting both Ekkamai and Thong Lor areas, which boasts fantastic restaurants and hotels

No matter where your job may land you in Bangkok, you can rest assured that there are plenty of wonderful educational opportunities for your children in your area.
